Creating Custom Reports in a Consortium
The MnPALS Consortium has a Reports Work Group that works to determine what
custom reports are needed, then works with PALS to refine and test the
reports. A panel will help you find out how the group works, learn what
reports libraries need that are not provided by Aleph, see a demonstration
of the custom reports created, hear about how the group members collaborate
with PALS, and learn about the testing process.

Cleanup in Aleph version 19. Panelists will describe varied options for
cleanup, both with and without the use of available Course Reserves
Services. We'll also discuss whether Course Reserves in version 19 is a
manual or automated process.

This event consists of several stations where a moderator will initiate
discussion on a specific topic and when a bell rings, the participants move
on to another topic at another station. Participants are able to walk up and
participate in up to four 15-minute sessions in one hour. This will be a
chance for participants to share, in a small group and on a more personal
level, workflow practices, problems, and ideas.

This session will focus on Aleph heading maintenance. Virginia will discuss
manual heading maintenance: how to submit changes to NACO/SACO, and in the
meantime, what to do in your own catalog. Stephen will discuss automated
heading maintenance: updating an authority file with the bib UPDate function
turned on, heading maintenance work that follows the authority loads, and
use of the Correct Heading, Correct Display, and AUT Recheck buttons to fix
batches of headings. There will also be time for questions.

Analytic Linkages for Serials and 'Bound-Withs'
This session will be divided into two parts. Part one will discuss the
mechanics of linking bibliographic records in Aleph. Linked records, using
the Aleph LKR field, may be used for analytic monograph descriptions of
theme issues in a serial, or for a monographic resource 'bound with' another
unrelated or separate resource. Part two will explain the fixed field index
(WFF), how it was built, and how to use it to refine your results for any
type of common command language (CCL) search.

End User Interfaces (MnPALS Plus, Primio, Worldcat Local)
Session comprised of 1) WorldCat Local (implemented in December 2008 at
College of St. Benedict/St. John's University) - Dave will speak about the
decision leading up to the implementation, as well as the implementation and
life afterwards. 2) MnPALS Plus - developed by PALS/Minnesota in conjunction
with a MnPALS task force of reference librarians and a cataloger. It was
based on the open source software VUFind. Stephen will show some of the fine
features of this interface and speak about some of the libraries'
experiences who are using the interface. 3) Implementation and use of MnCAT
Plus (Primo) at the University of Minnesota will be discussed by Chiat.
