Good morning, everyone:
As you may have heard, I am the new outreach coordinator of the Minnesota
Digital Library (www.mndigital.org). It will be my full-time job to reach
out across the state to help the Minnesota Digital Library grow and expand
as it seeks to meet the needs of many organizations and people.
The members of the Steering Committee agreed that we should be using our
listserv to reach out to you all, who have, almost since the MDL¹s beginning
in 2001, been interested in the development of this project. We want to
communicate better with you and tap into your expertise to help us with that
work.
Rather than wait until I have developed something formal to send you, I
thought it might just be easier to start with a plea for help.
I am looking for at least one person with expertise in Minnesota history who
would be willing to serve on our project selection committee. Two people
would be nice. We want to add to the relevance of ³Minnesota Reflections,²
our collection database (reflections.mndigital.org), as we begin our next
phase of digitization projects. Particularly, we want to seek out and choose
to digitize ³documents² that will provide meaningful primary materials for
students in grades 6-12 and in higher education. We are also planning a map
digitization project and to continue work with images of many kinds.
We are refining our definition of document, based on advice from current
selection committee members and we would like more expertise in doing that.
This person could be someone currently working or a retiree.
We do most of our work through e-mail, though we do like to try to
occasionally meet in person if at all possible.
If you know someone, you could either ask that person on behalf of the MDL
and then have that person contact me, or you could send me that person¹s
name and I would contact him or her.
Current members of our committee are:
Bonnie Wilson retired, formerly photographic curator at the Minnesota
Historical Society
Lydia Lucas retired, formerly head of collections management at the
Minnesota Historical Society
Lisa Marohn school library media specialist at Spring Lake Park High
School, Spring Lake Park, MN
Jason Roy UofM Digital Collection Unit (MDLC)
Keith Ewing Library faculty, St. Cloud State University (MDLC)
Marian Rengel MDLC Outreach Coordinator
(Tentative) Steve Werle History teacher, Academy of Holy Angels,
Richfield, MN
Please help. If you have questions, just e-mail.
And Thanks,
Marian Rengel
