Good morning:

Many of you will remember that last year the Minnesota Digital Library was
part of an exciting display at the State Fair, organized and created by the
MINITEX staff. Once again the MDL will join MINITEX in a booth during
Minnesota¹s great get together :-)

The MINITEX planners are looking for MDL volunteers to work in the booth
during the State Fair. Below is the pertinent information, from Mary Parker
at MINITEX, that you¹ll need to decide if you want to volunteer.

If you can, great. Please contact Kristen Meyer, meye0539 at umn.edu to let her
know that you are willing and able. Please copy me on the message so I can
keep track of MDL volunteers. Notice the deadline for volunteering August
4. Also be aware that MINITEX will offer the training through a Webinar as
they did last year.

If you have any questions, I¹m here to answer them.

Thanks so much,

Marian Rengel

It¹s that time of year again‹time to gather volunteers for the
MINITEX/University Libraries/MnLINK/Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) exhibit
in the Education Building at the 2006 State Fair.

Some things to know about this year¹s State Fair exhibit:

* Theme for this year¹s exhibit: Try Cool Tools @ Your Library

* The four partners are excited to promote our statewide resources,
available to all Minnesotans, online all the time:

o Electronic Library for Minnesota (ELM)
o MnLINK Gateway
o MDL¹s Minnesota Reflections
o University of Minnesota Libraries¹ Assignment Calculator and
QuickStudy

· The interactive exhibit will have six computers set up in three
distinct areas to allow for a hands-on, though guided, experience. We¹ll
have sample searches for fairgoers to try and sample searches for our
staff/volunteers to use in demonstrating the tools for those fairgoers less
than eager to fly solo.

* The Fair runs from August 24 - September 4.
* Exhibit staffing time is from 9 am - 9 pm every day.
* One person from each shift will be responsible for setting up or closing
down the exhibit (these activities are minimal).
* Standard shifts are 6 hours each, which is a full-day equivalent (Shift
One: 9 am to 3 pm; Shift Two: 3 pm to 9 pm).
* Each shift will be staffed with at least 3 staff/volunteers.
* There will be a training session for all staff/volunteers. We¹ll make
sure that everyone receives the training they¹ll need to feel comfortable
talking about these great library tools, including cheat sheets, sample
searches, and other support materials.

* MINITEX will arrange for day passes and State Fair t-shirts to be worn by
staff/volunteers while staffing the exhibit.

Here¹s where I need your help. Please let me know the following by August 4:

* Names of those in your unit who can volunteer
* How many shifts each person would like to take
* Preferred dates each person would like to work
* Preferred times each person would like to work: regular work hours,
evening hours, morning/afternoon weekend hours, or afternoon/evening weekend
hours

* Any times each person definitely cannot work
