To the Members of the Minnesota Digital Library Listserv:



"Minnesota Reflections," 
the first project of the Minnesota Digital Library, 
is now open for public viewing  
http://reflections.mndigital.org. 


"Minnesota Reflections" brings more than 5,000 photographs, postcards
and stereographs of Minnesota from before 1909, contributed by more than
50 cultural heritage organizations, to people around the world. Each
picture in "Minnesota Reflections" is a digital copy of an image from
the early days of the state, accompanied by information about the
image.

Visitors to the  "Minnesota Reflections" Web site may do basic or
advanced searches on all the  collections or browse a collection from a
contributing institution. Visitors may also browse images by topic or
region. They may read profiles of the contributing institutions and
learn more about the  Minnesota Digital Library initiative.



			Members of the Minnesota Digital Library
listserv have been watching the growth of this project and now have
something to share with their colleagues, students, friends and family.
Please tell everyone about this new resource.  If you work in a school,
perhaps you could visit classes and demonstrate the site to students. If
you work in a library, you could share information on the site with your
colleagues and encourage them to share it with patrons. You could also
link to "Minnesota Reflections"  from your library Web pages. Please
take advantage of any ideas you have for showing people the site. 
			


We could share with you contact information for contributors from your
area if you wanted to work with them to highlight their contributions
and the entire site. 

"Minnesota Reflections" made its debut in the Wonders of Technology
building at the Minnesota State Fair in August. People stopping by the
"Cool Tools @ Your Library" exhibit were the first to see this
collection of photographs.

Members of the Minnesota Digital Library Coalition include the College
of St. Benedict/St. John's University,  Minnesota State University,
Mankato, Minnesota Historical Society, St. Cloud State University, St.
Paul Public Library, Winona State University, MINITEX Library
Information Network and Moorhead Public Schools, University of
Minnesota,.

"Minnesota Reflections" was created by the Minnesota Digital Library
Coalition, with funding support from a Library Services and Technology
Act grant from the Minnesota Department of Education's State Library
Services and School Technology division.
