OCLC, Inc. and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)
invite you to attend the Statewide Digitization Planners Conference,
which will be held October 20-21, 2005 in Dublin, Ohio.
This conference brings together leaders of state and regional
digitization collaboratives to address topics of interest and concern
that have been identified during the past several Mid-winter and Annual
American Library Association conferences. Some of these topics include
best practices in managing collaborative initiatives, metadata creation
and quality assurance, OAI and interoperability, digital preservation
initiatives, sustainability and business planning, and training.
Speakers will include representatives from collaborative digitization
projects of varying sizes and types. As you will see from the attached
agenda, the conference combines plenary sessions with ample time for
small group discussion on related topics, and will afford the
opportunity for participants to share concerns, solutions, and
approaches to issues that are inherent in collaborative projects.
The conference begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, and will
adjourn at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21. It will take place at the
OCLC campus in Dublin, Ohio. Please RSVP via e-mail no later than
September 22, 2005 to Amy Lytle at lytlea at oclc.org
<mailto:lytlea at oclc.org>.
One or more Regional Service Provider representatives can attend this
conference at their own cost, as the grant only covers lodging and meals
for one project leader per state. All costs, including transportation
to and from Dublin, Ohio ground transportation from Port Columbus
International Airport, lodging, and meals, are the responsibility of the
attendee.
Information on traveling to Dublin will be provided when you RSVP.
Although the terms of the IMLS grant only allow for underwriting hotel
and conference meal expenses for one representative from each state, we
welcome other representatives of digitization projects to attend the
conference. A person will be designated to represent the Minnesota
Digital Library Coalition.
Please feel free to share the conference information with those you feel
would be interested, and ask them to contact Amy Lytle for registration
information.
Best regards,
Amy Lytle
