"Minnesota Reflections" preview now online
"Minnesota Reflections," the first collection from the Minnesota Digital
Library Coalition, provides access to more than 6,000 digital images of
Minnesota prior to 1908. Currently, "Minnesota Reflections" includes
images from 28 collections from around the state; images from another 28
collections will be added over the next month. To preview "Minnesota
Reflections" go to http://reflections.mndigital.org. The "official"
public launch will be 1 October (we will be developing and sending out a
press release that content contributors can adapt to share with local
media).
If you are visiting the Minnesota State Fair, stop by the Wonders of
Technology building. The MDLC has joined Minitex, MnLINK, and the
University of Minnesota to exhibit and demonstrate ELM databases, the
MnLINK Gateway, the Assignment Calculator, and "Minnesota Reflections."
Thanks to the MDLC volunteers who are helping to staff the exhibit.
After the first day at the fair, the reaction and comments have been
extremely positive.
The "Minnesota Reflections" project is due to the effort and support of
many people. Special kudos and thanks go to the many people at
* contributing libraries, archives, museums, and historical
societies who selected, scanned images, and input metadata;
* the Minnesota Historical Society and University of Minnesotawho
developed standards, scanned images, developed accurate work processes,
installed and manage the database software, and created usable and
attractive interfaces;
* St. Cloud State University who write the grants and manage the
dollars;
* the State Library Services and School Technology unit of the
Minnesota Department of Education for supporting the project with
federal dollars allocated through the Library Services and Technology
Act; and
* MnSCU for a small grant that helped "fill in the cracks."
Special thanks go to the members of the MDLC "Steering Committee" for
their diligence and continuing support for the project.
